Plaques and tangles

Characteristic of Alzheimer’s disease, plaques form from normal amyloid proteins which fail to be eliminated as in healthy brains. Tangles consist of a protein called “tau”, which is abnormal in Alzheimer’s, causing insoluble fibers in brain cells.
