User Testimonials

Users of our brain exercises are experiencing positive, often profound, results. Here is what they have to say:

Janice Anderson, 51, Kansas City, Missouri

Janice Anderson
“I am really very greatly appreciative of this program! Before I started I was having difficulty with huge gaps in my thought processes. I have been under a tremendous amount of stress and I am also postmenopausal. I would start a sentence and not remember where I was going with it! I could not recall information that I needed to complete tasks I started. I would go to the phone or to the door, computer, etc. and completely forget what I was about to do. Lumosity has helped me process better, brush up on my skills such as math (which I am not good at), and concentrate better. I look forward to making even more progress with the daily exercises. Thank you again and again and again.”

Lumosity’s daily training doesn’t take much time, it’s fun, and I can really see an improvement in my ability to think through and quickly understand new processes in my job. I also pay a lot of attention to tracking my BPI and progress in my profile; it helps me stay focused on improving my weaker areas.

“My interest in Lumosity.com comes from my obsession with the question: is it possible to increase native intelligence and/or maximize the usage of inherent cognitive abilities? Improvement in IQ via nutrition, mental workouts, etc. is something I’ve spent much personal time reading about over the last few years.
Near the start of 2009, I signed up for Lumosity.com and played aggressively for about a month as an experiment for a presentation I was giving to our employees on Maximizing Mental Effectiveness. During this time, I progressed rapidly and found that my thinking was much clearer, my short-term working memory had improved, and that I was able solve problems and come up with creative solutions much faster. I became a HUGE advocate and many of our employees signed up for the trial and enjoyed it immensely.…I’m wholeheartedly convinced that these mental exercises are effective!”

“I enrolled in Lumosity chiefly to strengthen my memory skills and keep them strong as I age. This is still the area in which I have the greatest difficulty. I am seeing, however, improvement in everyday matters such as ‘Where did I leave my glasses/car keys/purse?’, ‘What was that phone number/name/address/sequence of events?’, and ‘Why did I get up from my desk, walk all the way across the house, and come into this room?’”

“I am a sixty year old retired teacher and I have been using the Lumosity program for one month. I find it makes me use my brain in different ways and I feel more alert and ‘switched on’.
I use the program in combination with diet and exercise to maintain my physical and mental health.”

“I am launching an educational software company, which requires me to focus 10-12 hours a day. I spend most of my time on the phone. I am constantly processing new information and formulating responses at a rapid pace. Before I started using Lumosity, I would often find myself in the middle of business calls trying to remember a thought I had 30 seconds ago. You know that feeling: ‘I had something I was dying to say, but I lost it.’ Really frustrating. So I started playing Moneycomb, Monster Garden and Memory Match every morning for 10 minutes while I had my coffee. Definitely a fun way to start the day – it was hard to stop playing and get to work! I loved the way the games adapted as I got better and allowed me to track my progress. Within a few weeks I noticed I was no longer struggling to keep my thoughts together on business calls. I was concentrating much better and really getting the most out of every meeting. It was so effective that I’ve decided to start working on my other cognitive abilities.”

“I want to thank you for the Lumosity site. I have M.S. with lesions in my brain affecting my memory, judgment, decision making, and eyesight, just to name a few of my symptoms. It’s very encouraging to work at improving these functions that have been compromised by M.S. Plus, I’m having fun practicing your games; they’re addictive. Thank you so much!”

“I suffered a short term memory loss as a result of a closed head injury and it affected my life immensely. I was no longer sure of myself at work or at home, always trying to remember if I’d done what I needed to do, searching frantically for stuff and not remembering where I’d put it. I’d see or read something and not be able to absorb and remember it. Constantly berating myself for forgetting things, I often felt like I was stupid. My doctor prescribed medication that helped greatly and I started the Lumosity program at about the same time. I began to see an improvement, but after two months I had to stop the medication because of medical problems. I was scared that I’d spend my days forgetting and feeling stupid again. I really didn’t think the Lumosity program had helped that much. I was wrong. There was no difference between my work performance on meds and my performance off meds after completing the program. I am back to being confident in my abilities and able to do a good job at work. Lumosity probably saved my job; I know it saved my self-esteem! It’s a terrific program!”

“My favorite game is Raindrops, by far! One might think that simply adding, subtracting, dividing, and multiplying numbers in little bubbles would be less than exciting for anyone older than a fourth-grader, but there is something oddly comforting and stimulating about the activity that both soothes my mind and tunes it up all at once. As a graduate student in Chemistry, I spend most of my day tied up in my own complicated thought processes involved with designing experiments and reading newly published scientific articles, so it is a nice break to be able to power through a few dozen easy math problems which is not only quite the self-esteem boost but also a challenge. Plus, it keeps me sharp while budgeting and buying groceries.”

Tim Peters, 44, Texas

“I noticed as I continued playing the games, that I would get better scores if I intentionally focused on relaxing (slow, long breath then relax facial, neck, arm muscles, etc.) rather than allowing myself to tense up. I have a long history with headaches. During play, when I start “tensing-up” I immediately notice more headache pain and as I relax I immediately notice less. Due to the immediate and noticeable feedback while playing the game, I have been paying attention to minimizing that old tension throughout the day. It is hard to say for sure, but it seems I have found a way to reduce these chronic headaches of mine."

DJ Spafford, 56, Los Angeles, California

“I have to thank you for your program. I cannot be more pleased with the results. The games are not only fun to play, but I think my brain is in much better shape. I can definitely remember numbers a lot better than when I first started. In fact, everything is in better shape.”

Margarida Coutinho, 51, North Miami Beach, Florida

“Lumosity has clearly improved my reasoning, speed, and accuracy. I not only became a better driver, but am more aware of peripheral activity. And, as a bonus, my husband has met his match at Sudoku and Dominoes. I will keep on training.”

Dave Cogger, 48, New Brunswick, Canada

“One thing I notice is that my concentration has increased, as for remembering phone numbers. I quickly read a phone number and then can dial it without referring to the paper it was written on. Before, I had to think about remembering it and sometimes could only remember the first 3 digits to press them and then refer back to the number for the last 4 digits.
Also, I have noticed a marked improvement in my mood. When I first read about this on your site, I was a little skeptical it would help my moods since I suffer from depression. For the last couple of weeks I have been feeling really good mentally and am not sure whether it’s due from getting along with my girlfriend or whether I am in a better mood thanks to Lumosity and, therefore, am in a better mood with my girlfriend. Either way, it’s a win-win situation and I just wanted to say, keep up the good work.”

John Mazza, 28, Los Angeles, California

“Thank you! It is amazing how quickly I have seen results using your games during the last week. My mood has improved, I am reading much faster and retaining what I’m reading through at a faster pace (which is baffling and unexpected), and I feel oddly acutely aware of everything around me as if I am walking around with an IV injection of a Starbucks double espresso. I am impressed, to say the least.”

Susan Knight, 57, Benicia, California

“I’m sleeping better and am less fatigued. I have right side hemiplegia from cerebral palsy. Monster Garden is the toughest game for me, but as long as I keep it at ‘easy’, I see improvement. I do mental health in the Dept of Medicine here, and am showing it to lots of patients. Thanks so much. You are a real find.”

Minh Tri Huynh, 66, New South Wales, Australia

“I am a 66 year old resident monk at the Phuoc Hue temple in NSW, Australia.
As a sufferer of some short-term memory loss, I understand that we only use 1/10 of our brain ability and through exercising our brains, we can make up the loss by generating more connections. So I was searching on the Internet for brain-training software, and came up with the Lumosity site, which seemed to be what I was looking for.
This is an extensive brain-improving site with many interesting games. So I registered and have gone through the training programs since. Now I can remember things better, make fewer mistakes while chanting Buddhist sutras, etc. – and I think I am now on the road to recovery for a better memory. I would not hesitate to recommend this site to anyone who is interested in reclaiming their brain capacity.”

Sheridan George, 39, California

“The training does improve mood and energy levels, as I have been severely depressed with nursing burnout. After 14 years of mental health nursing, one day something snapped in my wonderful mind. I have a very high IQ and know of a lot of people with high IQs who just snap and never come back to happy…. I’ve been doing this for 7-10 days, several times daily and I feel hope coming back, real hope! And, when I go outside, the world looks different after my a.m. sessions – a good different. I can’t put my finger on it just yet, but it’s the program. The Birdwatching game makes the world less of a challenge. I’m feeling 50% better from three years of depression after just 7-10 days of Lumosity. You all are a true godsend.
Thanks for letting me give you my input.”

Shilpa Shamapant, founder of Austin Speech Labs, Texas

“Stroke patients having language difficulties are showing remarkable progress at Austin Speech Labs when intensive language therapy is combined with cognitive therapy.”

Saidy Smeenk, Netherlands

“Doing the training in the morning helps me feel alert and my brain is performing at its best for the rest of the day.”

Lynn R., 56, Vancouver, British Columbia

“I have been using Lumosity for a while now. I am dyslexic, so at first many of the games proved to be problematic for me, those in particular that required the use of both hands to answer yes or no. I have noticed an improvement in this area with a lot of repetitive practice. I also noticed that I am able to concentrate more when I am reading and retain more of what I read.”

Amy C., 36, Ontario, Canada

“I was diagnosed with adult ADD last year and I can’t believe how much of a difference the Lumosity program has made. I am on session 28 and I have experienced a huge improvement in not only my concentration, but in the length of time I can retain a high level of focus. Thank you so much.”

Edie V., 75, Washington

“I am 75 years old and not only do I greatly enjoy the games, but they also have helped in my daily activities. I am more alert when driving, dealing with vendors, and my memory has also improved. I love the games and play them several times a day.”

Eddie M., 37, North Carolina

“I really enjoy your product. I am only 37, but I have been having significant problems remembering words and even talking fluently. I would stammer because I was trying to get my thoughts together and recall the word I want to use. It’s been very embarrassing. After a little more than a week of working on Lumosity in the mornings, I’m already noticing improvements in my speech and word recall. Thank you!”

J.D., Earleville, Maryland

“I have been a competitive athlete all my life – in the equestrian sports. I have always had trouble memorizing and executing the compulsory tests (like figure skating). It has always been confusing to me, and takes practice, practice, practice.
I competed yesterday, and realized that I had learned the tests just by looking at them once and going over them in my head, and then executing them without mistakes, hesitancy, confusion or fear of making a mistake – confidence! Having done this my whole life, and this being such a dramatic difference, I can only figure to credit the Lumosity program.”

Lacy, 27, Austin, Texas

“I love Lumosity. I think it is helping me with my speed of processing. Since I had a stroke, I have difficulty with speed and language. Definitely Lumosity is helping me get better.”

Tom, 55, Austin, Texas

“Lumosity has helped me a lot. I use Lumosity everyday at Austin Speech Labs in addition to my speech and language therapy. I use Lumosity for one hour. My scores in Lumosity improved from 400 to more than 1000. Since I had a stroke, I have difficulty with speaking and auditory processing. I think it makes my processing better and is helping my language as well.”
